The Un-Social Media

Soul Snack 74/13 ... The Un-Social Media

The social media is a Trevi fountain of the ratbags and the rabid. They spout their cold offerings over all that wander too close. This un-social media contains all manner of self-promoters... those out to impress but not to impact.

Social media has given voice to those who should remain silent. It honors the incorrigible, the illiterate and the ill-advised. Social media provides a forum for fools and a vehicle for intellectual vagrants.

(I realise that this is a rant and there is an equal amount of good to the social media as there is evil; which actually proves that the internet is a product of the Tree of Knowledge and not the Tree of Life - but that is another discussion.)

A surprising tweet sprayed onto my monitor in a response a tweet of Ps 46:10....God is found in stillness and not study.

An un-social media mendicant responded - God is found through good theology.

Well was this an invitation to debate so I did... (BUT I now wish I hadn't).

I responded - the thief on the cross knew no theology just Jesus.

Their reply - no theology you don't know God.

I shan't continue the interchange across both my Twitter accounts (SoulSupply & MyParable) as the ensuing rude diatribe resulted in the blocking of my proud and absent verbal assailant.

So what is the point (aside of my deep disdain for their supercilious tweeting)?

Not only was this person wrong (no idea if they were he or she) BUT they are at best in eternal jeopardy because the knowledge of God is found in Jesus alone, not the words about Him.

Theology is only ever attempting to think God's thoughts after Him, as science is man explaining God's actions without Him.

You study the Scriptures diligently because you think that in them you have eternal life. These are the very Scriptures that testify about me, yet you refuse to come to me to have life. (Jn 5:39-40)

The study of theology no more gains spiritual success (salvation) than ignoring Jesus gains eternal life.
