9 Facts Heroes of Faith Know
Heroes of faith ROCK!
As regular readers know, my enduring (YEP - until I hand my knife and fork in) super-hero remains Hudson Taylor of China Inland Mission fame.
Do you too have a hero of faith? (Please let me know.)
Could you dare dream that you also may achieve an outstanding service for the Lord, likely a gift to Him you will never see?
Is it too wild for your imagination to consider leaving a legacy well beyond your breath, to unknown generations?
Would you seek to be a great believer for God forsaking the lights of an ever brightening Babylon, deciding no longer to be its foot soldier, but instead a general for Jerusalem?
What Christian message or kindness could you sow beyond the grave? You may never be remembered but your message or action might.
It doesn't matter if the world recalls your faith because God never forgets it, and with Him you will stay.
Great people of God face the:
- delight of great devotion
- misunderstood separation from the world
- choice of a never-ending self-denial for a higher good tomorrow
- knowledge that they are a stranger, an alien in a foreign a land
- joy of knowing they hold a citizenship in a city whose architect is God
- sadness (even rejection) from many ill-judgements
- heartache of swimming against the tide, and
- loss through unimagined privations.
Elijah (the prophet from the mountains of Gilead) camped in abject poverty.
Jeremiah (forty years a divine prophet of judgement to Judah) was tossed into empty cisterns of mud.
John the Baptist (Jesus' prophetic cousin) dwelt in the wild desert until a cruel and premature death.
And John the Apostle (who wrote Revelation) lived many of his days in a cave exile upon Patmos.
You know all of them!
They were put to death by stoning; they were sawn in two; they were killed by the sword. They went about in sheepskins and goatskins, destitute, persecuted and ill-treated – the world was not worthy of them. They wandered in deserts and mountains, living in caves and in holes in the ground. (Hebrews 11:37-38)
These faith-heroes still speak beyond their grave.
The mettle of a man's faith is not merely the mark he leaves on lives, but the deposits he banks into history.
The final fact heroes of faith know is that - when their breath is snatched, their legacy takes its place.
