• Faithfulness Carries Priceless Rewards

    19 January, 2020

Jonah has always been a metaphor for ill-fortune.

Pick me up and throw me into the sea... I know that it is my fault that this great storm has come upon you... then they took Jonah and threw him overboard. (Jonah 1:12-15)

As Jonah sunk into an angry Mediterranean surely his mind flooded - how long can I tread water in this raging storm?

Jonah's whale-sized disobedience to God's call delivered too a whale-sized storm. (Sow wind, reap a whirlwind - Hosea 8:7). He and his fellow sailors feared for their lives. This is the true end result of disobedience to God.

As with Jonah my sin can bring storms into my life and into the lives of those nearby.

Sin always contains wider implications - indeed complications. Ill-fortune bounds into the lives of those around us too.

Unfaithfulness creates its own miserable disasters, while faithfulness carries its own priceless rewards.

Despite the world's contemporary plea for the very private and unaccountable nature of personal behavior, Jonah still vividly illustrates that - sin is never conducted in a vacuum.
