Of Settlers & Pilgrims
All hearts know treasures and tears, wealth and weeping. Yet the habits of each heart remain set upon its delights.
If the heart is not set upon pilgrimage it will be set upon settling. Both comfort and gathering will flood the eyes of such a soul. These are the activities of the settled.
Pilgrims are only pilgrims because they travel light, or they daren't travel at all.
Pilgrims do not gather, they jettison. There is less comfort to be found upon a road.
Pilgrims do not carry the weights of settlers. They are equipped to bring their refreshments and not burdens to the places they travel through - turning brown to green, and dark to light.
Settlers will bring little revival to another's valley of weeping; they are too weighed down by their own unmet woes. As they may dwell in such valleys they become too weary, unable to visit another's.
The flow of the pilgrim's heart has moved from trust in mammon to trust in manna. It is this bread he favors, he can share with ease and is so light to carry.
Blessed are those whose strength is in you, whose heart is set on pilgrimage. As they go through the Valley of Baca they make it a place of springs; the early rain also covers it with pools. (Psalm 84:5-6)
