Seeking Greener Fields

Wishes for greener meadows and the gilding of life's lillies flow afresh each new year.

The habit of seeking betterment through an act of the will is long named a resolution.

None at all can know their future so only one resolution need suffice.

This is a simple thought, a single action; not for the self-made man or the proud. It is for those who enjoy a sober heart and are conscious of a frail body. They fear their own impotence yet still long for the fresher fields:

I resolve to make the Lord my stronghold and my hope alone. For it is in His name  betterment is received. (see Psalm 52)

The Lord is my stronghold when:

  • He is my refuge, the person I flee to and hide behind. He must be my confidence and trust in a good tomorrow, for I know not what awaits me.
  • I no longer wrestle Him and I have dropped all the masks of pretence as Jacob practised.
  • I no longer doubt in the times of darkness what He has shown me in the light.
  • I trust Him and not my strivings to best water my fields.

But I am like an olive tree flourishing in the house of God; I trust in God’s unfailing love for ever and ever. (Psalm 52:8)
