The Balance of Forgiveness

At its core, forgiveness remains unfair. There is something unjust about a person's dastardly deeds going unpunished.

In the final analysis, forgiveness is an act of faith. By forgiving another, I am simply trusting that God is a better justice maker than I am. By forgiving, I leave issues of fairness for God to work out. I defer to Him the scales of justice.

Wrong does not disappear when I forgive. But it loses its grip upon me, and is taken over by God. He knows what to do. ~ Philip Yancey

"Forgiveness is an act of the will, and the will can function regardless of the temperature of the heart". ~ Corrie ten Boom

"Forgive us our trespasses," Jesus has taught us to pray, "as we forgive those who trespass against us."

The balance of forgiveness is hinged upon reciprocity.
