The Profit of Solitude

Hermits choose the home of aloneness. Solitude has become their close friend.

The recluse who lives in a cave, rests in the wilderness or scrambles to empty mountaintops expresses the heart that finds life in solitude.

In solitude I sacrifice activity to shelter my body and soak my soul. I hear heaven's thoughts and enjoy its wisdom.

Solitude plates me up a heavenly meal, paradoxically I require no plates or utensils. Upon the plate of solitude Heaven's sweet manna descends.

Solitude prepares green pastures to rest in, and so the hearing of righteousness is received.

Solitude is the door to our Lord's dwellings upon earth, to taste the Heaven what we will gain forever.

Those practised and comfortable with solitude will never again exchange the thrill of the Lord for the trinkets of the world.

In the world the Lord is lost, but with the Lord the world is lost.

Solitude and stillness are bed partners.

In solitude God whispers all the loving presence of heaven - I am with you. (Psalm 23:4b)

Solitude sets me ever closer to the rock that is higher than I. (Psalm 61:2)

The soul that is eager for the Lord's presence upon earth can find no satisfaction until they find solitude.

I can do without many things, but I cannot live without the presence of God.

Lovers will always love to be alone.
