LYING AWAKE?

'Sometimes I lay awake in bed at night and I don't have a single thing to worry about, that worries me.' ~ Charlie Brown

Who would choose for sleeplessness, but somehow it plans on its own.

During those wee small hours we exaggerate our thoughts, while digging dark and deep mine-shafts that we roll into with ease.

Sleep flees. We lie awake! (Psalm 107:7a)

We are anxious. We feel alone. And so we know:

Our days are like an evening shadow, we wither away like grass. (Psalm 102:11)

Yet, we also know, the kind Lord does not slumber when we are wanting to:

Seek the Lord and His strength, seek His presence always. (Psalm 105:4)

Our heavenly Father does not look down upon us and blame us for our misfortunes. He is generous of spirit and gives without finding fault.

He responds to the prayer of the destitute; He does not despise their plea. (Psalm 102:17)

Praise God in the darkness of the night lest we forget to praise Him when the light returns.

  • Be at rest my soul for the Lord has been good to you! (Psalm 116:7)
  • Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death I will fear no evil for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff they comfort me. (Psalm 23:4)

There is as much profit from God's Word whether it is opened and read at midnight or midday. Its value watches no clocks.
