Endless Love

Soul Snack 68/12 ... Endless Love

Recently my ears were snagged by a tune I have failed to like and lyrics that had never previously gained my attention. This soulful work still remains unpalatable to me.

Endless Love was written by Lionel Ritchie and released in 1981. He recorded this ballad as a duet with Diana Ross. Endless Love continued on to an almost endless success and became the biggest ever selling single of Diana Ross' stellar career. Lionel Ritchie and Diana Ross sang of an undying love for each other and to each other in this chart-topper.

So why was I caught by an antiquated top of the pops when it had never registered on my top of the pops I mused? God was about to teach me something yet again...

Have you ever pondered a widow deep in tears at a grave-side?

Have you ever lived with a gnawing inside during the absence of a loved-one?

Have you ever known the ache and the desolation of a life left in a vacuum when a loved-one departs?

Love survives beyond the loved one's presence; yes this is true - absence makes the heart grow fonder.

Why - because love still lasts well after the loved-one hasn't; true love is endless.

God is endless, God is love, so love therefore must too be endless. We are all God's image so we share His very feelings too. The true love we feel for another is as eternal as His love for us because it too comes from Him.

Endless Love is free, unconditional and requires no appeasement because as soon as love has restrictions placed upon it, it is not the love of God and immediately becomes finite, such fragile love is of course not from heaven.

God's love is as robust as it is permanent.

We love because he first loved us. (1 Jn 4:19)

(I even just wonder too if Lionel Ritchie and Diana Ross realised they were singing about God, Jesus, Easter, Christmas and even creation - hmm... maybe not!)

Today's Soul Snippet:

Love is blind, maybe deaf, but is never mute.
