Soul Snack 147/12 ... Been there - done that!
Even Heaven has been worn by the grind of hard labor. On the seventh day God rested from His own exhausting activity. God too has looked forward to the time of rest, the season absent of toil. God's offer of rest has come from someone who He has been there - done that; He also had longed to rest.
By the seventh day God had finished the work He had been doing; so on the seventh day He rested from all His work. (Gen 2:2)
King David knew the authentic source of rest very well:
My soul finds rest in God alone;
my salvation comes from him.
2 He alone is my rock and my salvation;
he is my fortress, I will never be shaken...
Find rest, O my soul, in God alone;
my hope comes from him...
8 Trust in him at all times, O people;
pour out your hearts to him,
for God is our refuge. (Ps 62)
In refuge rest is received.
It is in God's presence the heart can be released and emptied so the soul can be filled.
It is His perfect rest that God hungers to share with each of His heavily-laden, exhausted and imperfect own.
