Pentecost polishes Jesus' work

The undone, the unfinished, the unclear and the unavailable, Jesus all 'left behind' at His ascension. The disciples obediently      prayed and waited together. There were about 120 gathered, listening to Peter, selecting Judas' replacement and waiting for the Holy Spirit. (See Acts 1:12-26)

The gift of the HOLY SPIRIT steps up to be our temporal guide. And, doesn't He step up with such an unforgettable and supernatural display at Pentecost!

There are no second chances at first impressions.

Amidst the four Gospels John's is a 'revelation' well 'above' the other three for its unrepeated content.

John 13-17 probes the intimacy of Jesus and His disciples. Jesus prepares His naive followers for His Passion, in the Upper Room. Jesus introduces His rag-tag team to the Holy Spirit soon to come.

This unique narrative in John's gospel records the work of the Holy Spirit, largely in chapters 14 and 16.

These 5 points below pick up why Jesus is replaced for the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit indeed adds much 'polish' to our Lord's work. John explains:

  • He is counselor, the Spirit of Truth. Clearly slapping down the false spirits of the air and the wisdom of man
  • He is unaccepted by the world, but lives in disciples
  • He convicts the world of guilt, sin, righteousness, judgement
  • He guides disciples into all truth, and
  • brings glory to Jesus by taking the things of Jesus and making these known to His disciples.

Dear reader, with all this 'bonus' supernatural attention He gives to His own, would you invite the Holy Spirit in every day, literally until you fall at His feet when you meet Him?

BE FILLED WITH THE SPIRIT. (Ephesians 5:18b)

Ask HIM to tarry with you all day, every morning.
