Palaces of the heart.

Soul Snack 64/10 ... Palaces of the heart

Ancient stone, moss-laden titans, surrounded by moats, protected by ramparts and accessed by drawbridges, will always invite a vivid thought or two. These castles are the palaces of both fact and fiction.

A palace conjures childhood fairy-tales to the adult imagination. They are the residence of kings and queens.

Palaces usually contain both wealth and well-being for the occupants. They are the seat of power and hold a grandeur only available to the elite.

Three such palaces reside in the souls of each of us.

The first is the Palace of Pride. Its rulers are my self-assertiveness, an unteachable spirit and overly confident correctness. There is a life-time of personal investment found in this palace. The drawbridge always remains closed.

The second is the Palace of Belonging. Those who rule this palace are my well-being, comfort and safety. There is much personal inertia stored in this palace. The drawbridge always remains closed.

The third is the Palace of Faith. This palace is ruled by the grandeur of my heavenly future and draws me far above the Palaces of Belonging and Pride. This should be the easiest palace drawbridge to keep down.

Only when the drawbridge is down, will The King ever be able to enter and find residence.

Which is your largest palace? Which drawbridges are down?

"The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth." (Jn 1:14)
