The Search for Reason

Soul Snack 147/10 ... The Search for Reason

Grasping at life's vagaries, I seek understanding. This inexorable search for reason has laid claim to man since the primitives.

The Egyptians, the Greeks and the Romans each sprinkled their own spices of intellectual flavor and scent upon this world. The Assyrians, the Babylonians and the Persians all swelled the sophistication of the Ancients' body of knowledge. The thirst for knowledge is never satisfied, it multiplies unabated to this very day.

There is something much higher though, than the quest for understanding. In the gaining of understanding there is weariness (Eccl 12:12), but in the reception of love there is much refreshment.

Complete understanding can never be gained. Many may pursue this, but none will succeed. In seeking the foundations of the universe, the very glue of the universe evaporates.

While we seek the whys of life - the hows of life eludes.

So how does life work - life works through love.

Love is the glue of the universe, the yeast of grace and the breath of salvation. Love is God, alive in me.

In the search for reason to gain life, we can actually miss life.

In the search for reason to gain life, we can learn much, but miss much more. For reason to life is found in love.

These three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. (1 Cor 13:13)
