Redeeming My Tomorrow
Man cannot discover anything about his future. (Ecclesiastes 7:14c)
That day dawns when men finally apprehend they have chased after the wind and grasped at vapor.
The vision of all men is the same. None can see tomorrow. But, wisdom today attempts to secure tomorrow well.
A parable is told by a desert father to this end:
Desert Father Abba Poemen listened to an enquiring brother who held pure intents, the brother asked:
If I give my brother a little bread or something else, the demons tarnish these gifts saying it was only to please men.
The old man responded:
Even if it is to please men we must give the brother what he needs.
Abba Poemen then told him a parable:
Two farmers lived in the same town; one of them sowed and reaped a small and poor crop, while the other, who did not even trouble to sow reaped absolutely nothing. If a famine comes upon them, which of the two will find something to live on?
The brother replied:
The one who reaped the small crop.
The old man then said to him:
So it is with us; we sow a little poor grain, so that we will not die of hunger.
Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. (Galatians 6:7-8)
It is from our sowing we can cut a grave, or build a palace for tomorrow.
This is a fixed law of heaven and earth. A man's every thought, words and actions are not conducted in a vacuum. For, he reaps as he has sown.
