Easing the Daily Race
It's about doing. Do more. Faster. ~ anon
In the second chapter of Louis Carroll's Through the Looking Glass the Queen is running at a very fast pace, pulling Alice along by the hand and calling out faster, faster. The curious part is, however fast they go, they never seem to pass anything.
Alice knew the rat race.
In discussion with Alice, the Queen teaches what maybe the 21st Century's most notable affliction:
Now, here you see, it takes all the running you can do, to keep in the same place. If you want to get somewhere else, you must run at least twice as fast as that.
Life continues for so many to be both laborious and burdensome. God knows this. He has His nail pierced arms outstretched to assist. He has timber hardened shoulders to bear burdens. and a hatred torn torso that too knows your wounds.
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light. (Matthew 11:28-30)
'Rest' sounds so dearly inviting to all racing under this 21st Century demanding axiom of faster, faster.
Taking on the yoke of Christ harnesses me to Him.
It aligns me correctly, allowing me to walk with Him, to share the load with Him, to work with Him and to work for Him.
Thus I am changed from being a solitary runner into a disciple who can rest secure in the closeness of His refuge, the fabric of His love and His permanent foundation of righteousness.#
