Guidance 201

It is right, indeed proper, for any Christian to seek the Lord's heart. This is Jesus' model. He did not act independent of His Father.

Jesus prayed in Gethsemane:

Your will not Mine be done. (Mark 14:36)

But sometimes God comes to you, and you haven't even prayed from Gethsemane.

Now Moses was tending the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian, and he led the flock to the far side of the wilderness and came to Horeb, the mountain of God. (Exodus 3:1)

Consider Moses for example:

he encountered God in a bush that was burning but not being consumed.

Moses had ventured to the far edge of the desert.

And, Moses met God on His mountain - Horeb.

There are three short lessons here for guidance:

  1. God is familiar with inhospitable places. You don't have to be in a church to hear from God.
  2. Expect the unexpected. This very unusual guidance will be just for you, but to benefit many.
  3. The more surprising the experience, the more the likelihood God is in it.

God created us out of nothing and so long as we are nothing - He can make something out of us. ~ Martin Luther
