The Very Breath of Humility ~ A

Humility enters these fresh days of 2023 desiring to walk the paths of righteousness for His names sake. (Psalm 23:3)

2023 is not a further season for self-promotion. God forbid. Agree with John the Baptist in John 3:30. He must increase, and I must decrease.

No believer is removed from the same pride Jesus' first disciples demonstrated. Driven by hubris they enquired of Jesus, Who is greatest in the kingdom of Heaven? (Matthew 18:1)

Jesus replied, He called a little child to Him, and placed the child among them. And He said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. (Matthew 18:2-3)

Jesus uses 'innocence' to drive His point home. WHY? Because, children have not yet set their heart on vain glory.

The faith of an infant is unpolluted and unsullied by life.

They are the very breath of humility. It is children who Jesus considered because they already belong to the kingdom of God. Such children are still unable to divide good from evil.

Curiously to the (proud) adult mind:

  • Adults are not the measure of heaven’s eligibility – children are. (Brennan Manning)

The Last Word:

At this point we each would do very well to choose children as our model.
