A Tale of 3 Servants

Soul Snack 55/12 ... A Tale of 3 Servants

Wind the clock backwards a few days.

An icy cold spring evening witnessed the final deserter, now sitting at a fire warming himself. He too would very soon no longer follow Jesus.

Sullenly he glared into the popping embers, not realizing that he was observed by a mere servant girl. A brief unhelpful Jesus denying chat ensued, the warmth of the fire now totally lost. The cock crowed. Bitter weeping was Peter's only recourse (see Luke 22:54-62).

Previously he had walked with Jesus and even to Jesus on water. Now he had walked away from Jesus.

Wind the clock forward now a few days. This time another servant is at the fire - Jesus.

Then the disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, "It is the Lord!" As soon as Simon Peter heard him say, "It is the Lord," he wrapped his outer garment around him (for he had taken it off) and jumped into the water. (Jn 21:7)

Then the disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, "It is the Lord!" As soon as Simon Peter heard him say, "It is the Lord," he wrapped his outer garment around him (for he had taken it off) and jumped into the water. (Jn 21:15)

Were Peter's tears still with him? Certainly his impulsivity was! Only this time when he jumps from a fishing boat, his frail humanity is far more evident than when he first walked on the water. Now he did not walk on water, but jumped into the water.

The deserter had again become the invited.

The invited will be restored.

Peter's ignorant bravado of the Last Supper is now replaced by the good blessing of this first breakfast.

Even those who have denied Him, who have failed miserably and deserted Him, Jesus will invite to eat with Him again.

Jesus was restored to life that He could restore others to life. Jesus feeds you before He restores you.

Breakfast with Jesus - don't leave home without it!

Jesus came for the lost, the least, the last and the lonely.
