Soul Snack 126/13 ... Betterment
The happy have little cause to examine their life.
The wealthy always desire more.
Yet the poor man who is without either happiness or wealth has cause to stop, to sit and to ponder his state.
The pauper examines his emptiness and then humbly bows before the Lord.
Who really knows gain?
Who truly has received betterment?
Who is the true pauper?
Remember him—before the silver cord is severed, or the golden bowl is broken; before the pitcher is shattered at the spring, or the wheel broken at the well, (Eccl 12:6)
