The Bedroom of the Soul
Ii is my guess that you have seen a teenager's disheveled bedroom once or twice. Hmm ... did the thought occur to you that some order may need to be brought to their room? (I am sure there are neat teenagers - somewhere!)
When the vagaries of life appear, the uncertainties of life are heightened or the assaults of life return with a sickening frequency, the soul becomes disordered. And, the inner-person can become a shambles. (Somewhat similar to a teenager's bedroom I would surmise.)
A bedroom remains sloppy while its owner plays an X-Box. A garage can't be tidied while the driver washes the car. To restore order other activities must first be jettisoned, it is only then the task of tidying can be attended to, so too the soul.
To restore order to a soul of lament and trouble, or to caress the soul of distress other activities must too cease.
To truly restore the soul Heaven must be given the opportunity to work. It is in stillness and solitude that the soul alone can be restored, refreshed and re-ordered. This is tidying up by stopping and not doing.
He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside quiet waters, He restores my soul. (Psalm 23:2-3a)
It is easy for God who is everywhere to meet me where I am. I simply need to be available.
