JOB ~ 'the unlucky!'- A#

Job became 'locked in storms'. His unchosen plain of pain continues palpable to this day. His few mates criticized him, looking down on Job in his days of misfortune. And, his thoughtless wife counselled:

... are you still holding on to your integrity? Curse God and die! (Job 2:9)

Job is a book of heavenly intrigue, earthly judgements and the deadly malaise of a righteous man.

Throughout history the book of Job has received commentary - in Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Mormonism and Bahai. This biblical book is set in the land of Uz, an eastern land.

Two traditional approaches to Job are:

  • seek the historical detail, or
  • reflect on the message to gain from its prophetic insights.

The prophet Ezekiel remembers Job as a righteous person alongside Noah and Daniel.

In the New Testament Job is credited as the exemplar of patient suffering. (James 5:7-11)

Since time in memorial a good God is chastened by His recalcitrant sufferers. Yet the story of Job is clear, the Creator of absolutely all consults none, ever, nor will He be held to account.

The Lord said to Job: will the one who contends with the Almighty correct Him? Let him who accuses God answer Him! ... who has a claim against Me that I must pay? (Job 40:1 & 41:11a)

There is no threat when men raise angry fists to His clouds. Such men do not understand.
