Oaks of Righteousness

A decade ago a clever friend speculated that whatever Hollywood could think of they could also create. As I tap away ten years on I am thoroughly convinced he is correct.

Today there is an extension of this rule:

anything you can think of you can do.

No plumb line of behavior now exists.

Where is the measuring rod for fine thinking and even finer behavior?

Few can divide life well. Evil is called good while the shameful is honored among pride saturated souls.

Who can hear the cry for righteousness when doing right has become measured by what suits me?

Two thousand years ago Jesus released seven nail driven pleas from His cross on Calvary - they were and still are the pleas of righteousness. This most broken of all men died from right living.

Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the broken-hearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion – to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of His splendor. (Isaiah 61:1-3)

It is the broken, the poor, the prisoner and the blind...

It is those consumed by despair, faint-heartedness and mourning...

who are fertile soils for a richer soul.

It is such souls as these who become the oaks of righteousness.
