Soul Snack 8/126 ... 'Faster - Faster.'

'Alice' knew 'the rat race'.

In the second chapter of Louis Carroll's 'Through the Looking Glass' the Queen is running at a very fast pace, pulling Alice along by the hand and calling out ‘faster, faster'. The curious part is, however fast they go, they never seem to pass anything.

In discussion with Alice, the Queen teaches what is now a 21st Century afflicting axiom:

‘Now, here you see, it takes all the running you can do, to keep in the same place. If you want to get somewhere else, you must run at least twice as fast as that'.

Life continues for so many to be both laborious and burdensome. God knows this and He has His nail pierced arms outstretched to assist. He has timber hardened shoulders to bear burdens. He has a hatred torn torso that too knows my wounds.

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." Mt 11:28-30

'Rest' sounds so dearly inviting to all racing under this 21st Century afflicting axiom. Exchanging burdens sounds so difficult to the self-made or the proud.

Taking on the yoke of Christ harnesses me to Him. It aligns me correctly, allowing me to walk with Him, to share the load with Him, to work with Him and to work for Him. It changes me from being a solitary runner into a disciple who can rest secure of the closeness of His love.

If I run alone, I will be unable to run always. If I am still, with Him, I will run well forever.
