Those yet to come

Soul Snack 246/13 ... Those yet to come

As age marches on and the years transgress my mortal frame, more frequently the lights of this world are dimmed.

Reading through the matte genealogy of Jesus in Matthew 1 is not the usual delight of devotion, yet as I pondered and prayed over it, the list brightened.

This catalogue shows the human blood line of Jesus. A planned and deliberate line stained by sin and evil, as well as lifted by righteousness and faith.

This caused me to ponder further on not only my blood lines, but those who would come after me - those born of my genes but not of my knowledge.

Consequently the present now commands less devotion and my thoughts turn to legacies and inheritances -  what I will leave behind. Distractions about the future, about those coming after me become more frequent. This assails my mortality. I now lay hold of more deeply the parallels Jesus makes through lilies of the fields and the birds of the air to a fleeting life.

With encroaching years, today is now far less valuable than securing tomorrow well.

All my grand-children are divinely planned and great-grandchildren are generationally locked-in ALREADY until Jesus returns. What I do today is no longer just for me it is for tomorrow, for those not known and those never seen.

I am the sum total of my forebears, but my after-bears will still be a genetically diluted sum total of me.

I am not just here for me, for my work on earth, or even the service of the Lord; I am also here for all those yet to come, and His service through them..

Seek Jesus' kingdom, His heart and His hands today, so that those who follow you will enjoy Him tomorrow.

Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you (Mt 6:33)
