Wounded Hearts - A

Soul Snack 86/11 ... Wounded Hearts - A

Scars and wounding are parts of all life. Skin will bear the visible injuries, but hearts hold the invisible ones.

A wounded heart is just that - vulnerable, sore and maybe even weeping. Wounded hearts can carry a lake of fire fuelled by thirsts and maltreatment.

Wounded hearts attract wounded hearts, as birds of a feather flock together. Such hearts coalesce, fed by the tributaries of disappointments and piercings.

As bees are drawn to spring flowers, each wounded heart seeks a sweet pollen, a salving nectar of comfort. The thirst of life is the thirst for love.

To gaze into another's eyes and see their heart is surely love. A wounded, indeed a broken Jesus gazed down from the red cross and met His mother's eyes to give her a new son. His love wrapped heart was shown to all. This wounded mum was now wrapped in love by her wounded Son.

Near the cross of Jesus stood his mother, his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing near by, he said to his mother, 'Dear woman, here is your son, and to the disciple, here is your mother.' From that time on, this disciple took her into his home. (Jn 19:25-27)

Jesus no longer looks upon the wounded from His cross but rather His throne. He still wraps wounded hearts in love -- He does this because love still covers all things.
