Spiritual Ambition - A ~ The Mortar of Simplicity

The descent of self is father to the child of spiritual ambition. Spiritual ambition is a man's magnet to divine grace.

But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble. (James 4:6)

The spiritually ambitious humbly place themselves to receive divine favor - 'blessing'.

John the Baptist is the Biblical champion (after our Lord) who modelled simplicity - the mortar of spiritual ambition to a carnal soul. This hirsute desert dweller paved the Messiah's path, raised his voice to protest the times and sought no human favor.

It is from the presence of clutter and the busyness of his hands that a man's spiritual senses are dulled, thus smothering his heavenly purpose. But the absence of clutter and the presence of quiet equate to simplicity, and so a lighted match is held to the candle of spiritual ambition.

If you get alone and let your knees make contact with the ground, and you stay there awhile, it will do more good than anything else. ~ A.W.Tozer

In the bleak cry of I MUST INCREASE life is surely lost - but from the simple song of I MUST DECREASE spiritual ambition is truly lived.
