Left in the dark?
A troupe of ten young maidens waited for the Groom to attend His wedding banquet. They sat long into the night for His presence. They slipped into slumber. All had carried oil lamps, but only five thought to bring a jug with spare oil. The Groom arrived. All were quite surprised, yet just five maidens could re-light their lamp. There were five left in the dark so they reached out to borrow oil, their lamps had gone out. The five wise maidens responded:
‘No,’ they replied, ‘there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.’ (Matthew 25:9)
A bird is not prepared for flight by depending upon another's wings.
Jesus understood the human spirit perfectly, 'the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak'. Neglect had crept in for five maidens even though their intentions were very good.
Yesterday's fuel cannot be traded upon today or tomorrow for it is already spent, like petrol left in the tank, it is rendered unusable by disuse. Ask the Holy Spirit every morning to spend the day with you.
... be filled (daily) with the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 5:18b)
Yesterday's spiritual success cannot be traded upon, any more than the Israelites were able to eat yesterday's manna.
NOTE - this is a parable of both inclusion and exclusion.
We need to number our days aright, we all will meet Him. This is to be sure. Will you be ready or left in the dark?
