Submerged in the Spirit#

The man brought me back to the entrance to the temple, and I saw water coming out from under the threshold of the temple toward the east (for the temple faced east). The water was coming down from under the south side of the temple, south of the altar. (Ezekiel 47:1)

J. Gresham - Machen (1881 - 1937) habitually immersed himself in Scripture. These reflections he drew from Ezekiel 47:1-12.

The deep waters of  the Holy Spirit are always accessible, because they are always flowing. Will you claim afresh and anew today to be immersed and drenched in these waters of life? The waters in Ezekiel's vision were at first 'coming out from under the threshold of the temple'. Then a man went to measure it, he found it to be ankle-deep. Soon he measured and found it to be knee deep. Again he measured and the water was to the waist. Next it was a 'river that no-one could cross'.

How far have we advanced into this river of life? The Holy Spirit desires that our self be completely submerged - not merely ankle deep, knee-deep, waist-deep but self-deep. He wants us hidden and bathed under this life-giving stream. Let loose the lines holding you to shore and sail into the deep. And never forget, the Man who does the measuring is with us today.

The Last Word:

When your depth increases in the Holy Spirit the carnality of your spirit decreases. The deeper you go the purer you become. ~ anon
