The End of the Matter ~ A
Love by its nature seeks union. ~ Brennan Manning
The late Brennan Manning's wisdom is to be inscribed upon the heart, sealed upon the forehead and etched into the mind, for that which is not forgotten is likely not to be neglected.
“Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.” (Jeremiah 33:3)
This verse above is on offer to the prayerful and the brave, an appeal to the spiritually dissatisfied and the devoted wise. It is a plea to approach the Throne of Grace that shallow Christian knowledge may become deep and rich Christian faith.
Devotion is two becoming one; that the lesser may learn from the greater.
Devotion is never measured in commercial terms. It is a stripping of self from distractions. Devotion is a deliberate choice to push demands aside, and alienate the shriekings of the flesh upon your soul.
Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: ... to keep oneself from being polluted by the world. (James 1:27)
Devotions are winning in the war for the soul.
Our bodies perish, our breath will be snatched back to heaven where it came from, but our soul we own. We cannot choose what happens to our body or breath, but we do choose the destination of our soul. This choice is made upon earth. It is either celebrated or regretted forever.
Conduct devotion for your pleasure, but ignore it to your peril.
Devotions upon earth are the packaging of your soul, and mailing it on ahead to heaven.
