The Garden of the Weak
Gardens are pleasing and comfortable. Attractive as they are, why would anyone choose to leave such beauty for brutality? Jesus did!
There is a significant difference between being a disciple in Gethsemane reclining at a distance and asleep, than a disciple weeping beside Jesus and awake.
Gethsemane is not a garden of delights, anymore than it is a garden of compromise.
Gethsemane is the garden of all or nothing. It is the place where a bowed soul and body so fall to the ground that the spirit must only follow.
Gethsemane is the pit of weeping. It is the place where your best friends sleep while you are in terror.
Gethsemane is an unwelcome beginning for those who don't shrink. Much worse is still yet to come.
After this un-fled garden - betrayal, false judgement and then crucifixion arrives.
BUT - the crucifixion was nailed first by the tears in Gethsemane.
There is no hanging upon a tree if there is first no 'dying' in the garden.
Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds. (John 12:24)
The disciple who would do much for the Lord, will first fall as Jesus did unreservedly in his own Gethsemane.
This garden of the weak is a fertile soil watered by tears, for only from there do the steadfast oaks of righteousness rise.
