The Penetrating Word
God's Word brings life and wisdom, justice and peace. It soothes the soul and seeks out sin. The unknown author of Hebrews pressed down on how penetrating God's Word can be:
For the Word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. (Hebrews 4:12)
Life as a disciple is lived under the sure direction and correction of The Bible, applied by the Holy Spirit of Truth. Any disciple immersed in Scripture will learn:
- righteousness
- love
- hope
- prayer, and so much more.
Scripture thus informs and then forms those who would call Jesus LORD. God's written word carries a priority which is evident in all a believer will do. It does not need to be corrected, or clarified or supplemented, precisely because it is God's Word. Peril awaits those who try.
The Last Word:
Jesus quoted Scripture, trusted Scripture, and He entrusted it to His apostles. So, because I am a follower of Jesus I trust the entire Bible too.#
