The Pretending Heart

As the sun dawned upon recorded time, a deceitfully hairy Jacob masqueraded as his hirsute brother Esau, to steal Esau's blessing.# Since then mankind has modelled life on Jacob, living in a relentless deception - pretending to be someone else to gain favors undeserved or unavailable.

The masks and treasured costumes continue to be donned daily to curry an unmerited favor.

The real fear is that to be truly known is to miss or lose blessing. Sadly such self-belief is that the true-self when revealed is undesirable or unsatisfactory.

The fabrication of a false-self expected to please others is to seek blessing by pretense.

Yet the blessings that faith invites are patience as the conduit of favor, and integrity as the root of well-being.

Those who would travel the Lord's narrow path know pretense is not a pavement for secure and safe favor, anymore than infidelity is an expression of real faith.

SPIRITUAL PRINCIPLE:

Beware the pretending heart, for it can only lead to what it feeds on.

“I the Lord search the heart and examine the mind to rewarda man according to his conduct, according to what his deeds deserve.” (Jeremiah 17:10)
