The Profit of Meditation

Life is completely occupied. Western man daily roams stupefied to distraction by the persistent bombardment of living - we seldom take the opportunity to be and omit to do.

Meditation is the redemption of the mind from the assault of life, the securing of an inner peace. The price that is paid is time. Meditation is the soft physician for a soul.

The mind is bought back (returned to its owner) from the transitory, the carnal, the white noise and the valueless - all that destroys harmony and suppresses the understanding of eternity God has placed within each soul.

He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart (Ecclesiastes 3:11)

Stopping, to cease activity is the first action towards meditation.

The dwellings of my mind - the thought houses that consume all my sunlit and sleeping hours are of at least an equal value to the Lord, as my actions during every breath of this mortal coil.

If the heart is the seat of emotion then the mind becomes an agile engine for action.

I feel, then I conceive, then I do.

We must be aware of the call to let our false, compulsive self be transformed into the new self of Jesus Christ. ~ Henri Nouwen (explaining a teaching of St Anthony).

we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. (2 Corinthians 10:5)

It is in meditation thoughts are taken captive. Christ then births a new self no activity of man can create.
