UNSEARCHABLE!
What do you want to achieve? Greater riches? Cheaper chicken? A happier life, a longer life? Is it power over your neighbors that you are after? Are you running away from your death? Or are you seeking greater wisdom, deeper piety? ~ Erwin Chagraff
As each year rolls around with a perpetual boredom we seek to dress it up with picnics, parties, and fireworks. We gaze back over our right shoulder, see our frailties and with a 'ten minute rush of blood' resolve again to firm them up for another year. Yet we are all too aware of their annoying and hollow persistence. In fact resolutions are sweets to the soul, until bitterness explodes the sweets with guilt.
Now consider please the invitation God has issued from 'before time' for this new year?
This is what the Lord says, He who made the earth, the Lord who formed it and established it—the Lord is His name: ‘Call to Me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.’ (Jeremiah 33:2-3)
Through Jeremiah the good Lord invites His believers to reach up by kneeling down. God intends to teach us things unimaginable, things not found in libraries, and things that will lift each of us above our futility.
He reveals deep and hidden things; He knows what lies in darkness, and light dwells with Him. (Daniel 2:22)
