WATCHING THE SIGNS?
As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately. “Tell us”, they said, “when will this happen, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?” (Matthew 24:3)
We as Christians are dropped into these multiplying times of testing & sifting, whipped up by wars and rumors wars. We are each living in the ever shortening shadow of Jesus' return.
Jesus teaches His disciples now to consider the future by how they live in the present, for the future is not unconditionally assured.
It is remarkably simple for believers to become drowsy and lethargic in their faith. It can be easier to become a Christian than remain as one. The wrestle of this wait, the tangible plod of daily life is most wearisome and relief seems too far off. BUT - the task is simple, be fueled for Jesus' return.
The 'famous' parable of the Ten Virgins cries out to self-examination. For, the loss of being unprepared is far greater than the cost of remaining fueled.
When the Son returns will He find faith on earth? (Luke 18:7)
The bellow of the Cross echoes for a constant vigilance, it is only those who stand firm to the end who will be saved. Live today as if you will meet Jesus tomorrow.
