When the ache is persistent

A prayer from deep within King David ...

Hear, O Lord, and answer me, for I am poor and needy ... have mercy on me, O Lord, for I call to you all day long ... (Psalm 86:1 & 4)

In auditing the sore soul there is eternal treasure to be discovered, not even measured by a king:

  • I am drawn closer to the Throne of Grace
  • there is far more wealth from pain than pleasure
  • out of small mercies greater mercies are witnessed
  • I learn there is unfathomable betterment for all my tomorrows
  • I learn the hollowness of my flesh to satisfy my pleas
  • I gain the rest of Heaven's all redeeming grace

Without travail who would ever bend down to look up? What loss there would be!

Take My yoke upon you, and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. (Matthew 11:29)
